Direct Investments

Northgate co-invests in highly disruptive venture capital companies and promising private equity companies, in alliance with a handful of the world’s foremost investors.

Our direct investment approach provides our limited partners with financial interest in companies that are transforming core industry sectors, from energy and greentech to life sciences and information technology.

Northgate’s direct investments are made with a two-phase approach that optimizes risk/return tradeoffs. Our first “screen” is to carefully analyze the broad venture capital and private equity universes for high performing funds with a strong track record for active, value-added management philosophies. We forge strategic relationships with these select funds, which in turn enables us to carefully analyze direct investment opportunities in the funds’ portfolio companies. Our second, and equally critical, filter is that we make investments in concert with our fund partners in their portfolio companies that appear to have the greatest promise, including those that have overcome core technology, product development or regulatory obstacles that might have presented significant risks or barriers to market success.

Most of Northgate’s portfolio investments have matured beyond the early growth risks and have exhibited the greatest market potential—and, in turn, the greatest potential investment returns for our limited partners.
